FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q. I keep my home very clean. Why should I purchase a CAP (central air purifiers) system?
Q. Won't portable HEPA units provide the same air purification benefits as Northwest Abatement's Central Air Purifiers?
- Vacuuming will stir up settled particles, 99% of which are smaller than 1 micron in size, and will pass right through a vacuum filter bag. Once airborne, these particles can pass right through the body's defense mechanisms and into the lungs.
Q. Are the potential benefits of HEPA filtration and cleaner air recognized byh the scientific and health care communities?
- No. Portables can be noisy, and are primarily effective within one room of area. The HVAC-mounted CAP systems are designed for whole house air purification. Purchasing a number of portable units for various rooms would be more costly and intrusive.
Q. How do electronic air cleaners compare to HEPA filtration?
- Numerous CAP600 systems have been purchased as a direct result of specific recommendations from physicians. According to the 1997 American Lung Association (ALA) publication, Blueprint for Health, "Because of its high efficiency at filtering out tiny particulates, HEPA filtration is recommended for those individuals who suffer from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory problems."
- These devices are typically less than 20% efficient at 0.3 microns. As with passive electrostatic products, cleaning and maintenance is required, and filtration efficiency drops off significantly as filters become dirty.
